Yöpuu Yhtiö Oy is a family-owned company based in Jyväskylä, operating hotel and restaurant businesses in the heart of the city. We operate in three locations: the iconic Yöpuu-Pöllöwaari, Verso on the city’s best spot on the pedestrian street, and the charming Bistro Kirkkopuisto. Responsibility is an important value for us, and we actively work to become an even more responsible operator. We think long-term and make decisions that matter – for people, the environment, and the future.
Responsibility is not just about environmental actions; we also pay attention to social and governance factors. Responsibility is a whole that we all create together—employees and customers alike. Hotel Verso is proudly part of the international travel industry sustainability program, Green Key. Hotel Verso received its certification in the summer of 2024. Hotel Yöpuu achieved certification in December 2024. With Green Key, we continuously develop our operations to become even more sustainable.
We use clean, green electricity
At Yöpuu Yhtiö, we use only green, cleanly produced electricity in all our locations. Choosing green electricity plays a significant role in reducing our carbon footprint. To improve our energy efficiency and reduce consumption, we use LED or energy-saving bulbs in the lighting of our units.
At Verso and Yöpuu-Pöllöwaari, energy and water consumption as well as waste amounts are monitored on a monthly basis. The collected data helps us identify any spikes in our consumption and waste levels, enabling us to address them more effectively. We aim to significantly reduce bio-waste by primarily offering plated meals instead of buffet-style dining in all our restaurants. To reduce water and energy consumption, we do not change bed linens or towels in guest rooms during daily mid-stay cleaning every time.
We consume sustainably
Our procurement policy strongly emphasizes the quality and domestic origin of products and raw materials. We primarily source domestic products and raw materials in all our departments and strive to utilize local producers and service providers whenever possible. The hotel cosmetics products we use come from the Finnish brand Lumene. The products are vegan, and the packaging is 100% recyclable. Towels and linens are washed at our partner Comforta’s laundry in Jyväskylä, using Nordic Swan -Ecolabelled detergents. In our units, we also use Nordic Swan -Ecolabelled detergents approved by the Finnish Allergy and Asthma Federation. All our paper products are also eco-labelled.
